I hope your year has started of wonderfully. Again, I have been busy sewing, just not writing. First, a recap of some of my favorite projects from 2013. The trend I noticed was lots of small projects. There were no major quilts made aside from a couple of baby quilts. <br />
2013 was definitely a year full of swaps. I made so many items for other people and received lots of beautiful things in return. <br />
My favorite was the X-Factor swap on Flickr. I participated in every round because I just could not resist. Each round I told myself I was sitting this one out and then I'd see the entries and had to participate. My couch is so full of rainbowy goodness, it makes me happy every day to see so many lovelies from around the world.<br />

I made some Christmas pillows to sell in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/CutSewPressLove" target="_blank">Etsy</a> shop. Only one sold via Instagram thanks to the help of the wonderful Terri of <a href="http://sew-fantastic.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sew Fantastic</a>. I tried some new designs using raw edge applique and some different free motion quilting. <br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11079314926/" title="DSC_4003 by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC_4003" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3774/11079314926_6760cf0f04_c.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
Paisley quilting is my new favorite FMQ design. Inspired of course by the ever amazing <a href="http://www.quiltingismytherapy.com/" target="_blank">Angela Walters</a>. I always go to her books for inspiration. Its nice to add a new skill to my repertoire.<br />

<br />
I also designed and made these wall art hoops. There are still some left in the shop as well.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11079222085/" title="DSC_4051 by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC_4051" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5526/11079222085_a619e157ea_c.jpg" width="640" /></a>

This journal cover was created for my quilting notebook. Its way cuter than that ugly black and white camo print. Sewing with real linen is not near as fun as using Essex linen. It was so flimsy and shifty. Still the result was a success so I am happy. I used a tutorial from <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/08/tutorial-journal-covers.html" target="_blank">Stitched In Color</a>. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11716777896/" title="Untitled by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3696/11716777896_dc2c382550_c.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
A few of these ornaments were included into sold hoop orders as a thank you.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11716373164/" title="Untitled by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7292/11716373164_f674938eea_c.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
Last, but not least is my first finish of 2014. A belated Christmas gift for my mother. I used leftover Anna Maria Horner scraps from when I made <a href="http://cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2013/05/pts-10.html" target="_blank">this pillow</a> with a few solids mixed in. I went with paisley quilting again because why not! Seriously, after making this pillow I am now in the I LOVE AMH fan club. I never understood the obsession some bloggers had with her fabrics but now I am a total convert. The way her designs and colors work together is so amazing and beautiful, I cannot get enough. This year I am planning to make a new queen sized spectrum quilt for our bedroom from her fabrics only. I love my <a href="http://cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2012/08/swoon-in-peacock-lane.html" target="_blank">Swoon</a> quilt but its time for a change. I do dread the thought of quilting a queen sized quilt on my machine so we'll see how that goes.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11715002164/" title="AMHPP1 by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="AMHPP1" height="428" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2851/11715002164_e9eece3fcf_c.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
I have to note that when I make my patchwork pillows like this I do not sew each and every teeny square together one by one. I use <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/03/stamp-collection-making-the-block-.html" target="_blank">this cheater method</a> from Oh Fransson. I love it and highly recommend it. Using the fusible makes this a quick and fun project.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/11714893513/" title="AMHPP3 by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="AMHPP3" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3709/11714893513_cd82c0a741_c.jpg" width="624" /></a>
<br />
Well, now I think I am all caught up. I won't even get into plans for this year. Day by day is how I'm taking it. Congratulations if you made it to the end of this pic heavy post ;) As always, thank you so much for reading and for joining me on my sewing journey. Again, Happy New Year friends!<br />

<br />
So happy to finally be able to share this quilt! I loved every minute I spent making this one. Watching the magic that happens when Anna Maria Horner's fabrics play together is just so much fun. All prints used were from her Hand Drawn Garden Collection. I wavered back and forth about buying the entire collection for a while. Something about it kept calling me back to my etsy favorite page, where I'd just look at the pictures of it until I finally hit the button. This gorgeous room redo over at<a href="http://oliviajanehandcrafted.com/blog/?p=4002" target="_blank"> Olivia Jane Handcrafted</a> totally sealed the deal as soon as I saw all of the beautiful photos.<br />
Once the fabric arrived I stared at it not sure how to use all of the prints. The giant Dresden idea hit me and I knew this collection and that pattern would be a great combination.<br />
I used <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2013/04/giant-scrappy-dresden-plate-block-and.html" target="_blank">Rita's tutorial over at Red Pepper Quilts</a> for all of the cutting measurements. For my ruler I used this <a href="http://www.joann.com/omniangle-wedge-ruler/10709731.html" target="_blank">OmniAngle Wedge Ruler</a> I scored from Joanne's for 50% off. <br />

I also made this lovely lady to go along with the baby quilt which was a gift. <br />
Recently I've been obsessed with crocheting around around embroidery hoops thanks to these two awesome tutorials by <a href="http://www.heartmadelife.com/crochet-embroidery-hoop/" target="_blank">Heart Made Life </a>and <a href="http://sewchatty.blogspot.com/2013/09/crochet-embroidery-hoop-tutorial.html" target="_blank">Sew Chatty</a>. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the hoops until I saw this <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldwillow/6978136661/in/faves-57458036@N02/" target="_blank">gorgeous pillow</a> by <a href="http://goldenwillowquilts.com/" target="_blank">Ale</a> and then I knew I had to make some beautiful hair silhouette girl. Unfortunately the pattern she used had been retired and so I had to get creative. I used some clip art I found and traced the lines I wanted to stand out. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10736958845/" title="DSC_3886 by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC_3886" height="426" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2891/10736958845_cfe7fd0c91_o.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
And last but not least, here is my entry for the Low Volume round of the X-Factor Pillow swap. So fun to make this one, just really relaxing and easy so I named it Easy Breezy.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10712976406/" title="Easy Breezy by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Easy Breezy" height="607" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3791/10712976406_fa4d366564_o.jpg" width="640" /></a>

Thank you for stopping by to visit! Happy sewing!<br />

<br />
I figured if I wait until I find the right words I will never blog about it so instead I will just share my photos. All in all, Sewing Summit was a wonderful and amazing experience and I hope I am able to go again one day.<br />
<br />
I made a QAYG version of Amy Butler's Weekender Bag. Don't look on the inside though, because I haven't finished hand sewing the lining in. I used so many of my most favorite prints.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10295329485/" title="Weekender RBT side by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Weekender RBT side" height="510" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7349/10295329485_2b45868ef3_o.jpg" width="640" /></a>

<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10295450833/" title="weekender side A by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="weekender side A" height="511" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7438/10295450833_53fac99a5b_o.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10295229914/" title="weekender peacock lane pocket by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="weekender peacock lane pocket" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/10295229914_491bdbdc20_o.jpg" width="511" /></a><br />
In keeping with the travel handmade theme I left my leather purse at home and instead made a 241 tote using Anna of Noodlehead's <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2011/03/241-tote-pattern.html" target="_blank">pattern</a>. The fabric is linen with prints from the Tsuru collection. Love this bag, love this pattern! I've been itching to make another but not just yet. Too many other things to be made first.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10295233104/" title="241 tote by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="241 tote" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3752/10295233104_102e42e7f2_o.jpg" width="373" /></a><br />
I made a little travel sewing kit which definitely came in handy for my classes. I found a free pattern <a href="http://www.asgatlanta.org/ServiceProj.htm" target="_blank">here</a> but the measurements were off so I had some reconfiguring to do.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10295234454/" title="travel sewing case by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="travel sewing case" height="640" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5471/10295234454_c57ed976f8_o.jpg" width="430" /></a><br />
For the secret swap I made this box bag for my partner and a wall mini. It was so fun to do the swap in person and see every one's reaction to what they received.<br />

I was able to get into <a href="http://lrstitched.com/" target="_blank">LR Stitched</a>'s leather accent tote class and this is the fabulous result. I gave it to my momma as a thank you for watching my boys while I was away.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10296175624/" title="leather accent tote by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="leather accent tote" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3810/10296175624_3c5fc5ea08_o.jpg" width="433" /></a><br />
So much awesome swag thanks to Sewing Summit and the <a href="http://www.slmqg.com/" target="_blank">Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild</a>!
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10296278185/" title="Sewing Summit Swag by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Sewing Summit Swag" height="640" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2806/10296278185_ff5aa07d8f_o.jpg" width="426" /></a><br />
Another one of my courses was a curves class taught by Angela of<a href="http://cuttopieces.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> Cut to Pieces</a>. I'm going to mount it on canvas like she did and hang it on the wall.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10296435415/" title="curves mini by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="curves mini" height="637" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3790/10296435415_a055191124_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I had to make myself a name tag of course.
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/10296335374/" title="name tag by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="name tag" height="442" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2894/10296335374_c5b02c9f9b_o.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
And lastly, here is a snapshot of all the pics I took that weekend. It was so fun to meet my Instagram friends in real life. I also met so many new people. Words fail to describe what a wonderful time I had.<br />

There is so much more I could tell but I'd be writing a book if I shared it all. If there are any questions please feel free to email me.<br />
Thanks for reading!<br />

I was able to complete 2 different baby quilts using the same collection. The fabric is Les Amis by Patty Sloniger with Kona Medium Gray.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F5XPCIHBkWU/UhmLeNxIzyI/AAAAAAAAApc/fIIcMkWcfYI/s1600/DSC_2748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F5XPCIHBkWU/UhmLeNxIzyI/AAAAAAAAApc/fIIcMkWcfYI/s640/DSC_2748.JPG" width="627" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pattern is Swirling Medallion from the Book Quilting Modern by Jaquie Gering and Katie Pederson. </div>
I quilted it with a serpentine stitch which gives it such a great effect.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the second quilt from the same line. Lately I've been rounding the corners on some of my baby quilts. I love how it softens the frame.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also finished another pillow for the X factor Pillow Swap round 6. I named it Double Hexy Delight. The theme was hexies. I used <a href="http://www.lovelylittlehandmades.blogspot.com/2012/10/easy-double-hexagon-pillow-tutorial.html" target="_blank">Kerri's tutorial</a>. As I was making it, I wasn't sure about the direction it was going in. The hand stitching totally made the difference for me, and I really enjoyed doing it.</div>

Here is a peek at what I'm working on now. It's my swap piece for the Sewing Summit Secret Swap. Sewing Summit is less than a month away and I'm so excited and a bit nervous about going. I'm also working on my Amy Butler Weekender Bag, which I hope to share with you soon. If you're on instagram you can see some pics of it there. I'm cutsewpresslove on instagram.</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first saw this <a href="http://sizzixblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/seaglass-waves.html" target="_blank">gorgeous pillow and tutorial</a> a while back I instantly fell in love! I immediately placed my order with Peg of <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/sewfreshfabrics" target="_blank">Sew Fresh Fabrics</a> and requested the exact same bundle of Kona Cottons in Ice Frappe, Aqua, Azure, Bahama Blue, Peacock, and Surf. The bundle sat for a while until I was in the mood to make the pillow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few weeks ago one of my best friends got married. I had the honor of being one of the bridesmaids in the ceremony. For a wedding gift I knew I was going to go the handmade route of course, but I wasn't sure what exactly to make. Then I remembered that my girlfriend has a lovely collection of cobalt glassware on display in her living room. Boom! Enter my lovely bundle of blues. I do not own a Sizzix cutter so I made my own bottle template and decided to follow the <a href="http://sizzixblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/seaglass-waves.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> to a T. Why mess with perfection right? I couldn't gift just one pillow and still had plenty of fabric left for another and so I made the other pillow. I don't know why, but again I went with triangles. I think I need a triangle intervention :) Really though, I think the triangles compliment the waves of the other pillow so nicely. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-anp14oDSPeQ/UeRDsZq0rfI/AAAAAAAAAog/w49oxU2zH8I/s1600/DSC_2631.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="418" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-anp14oDSPeQ/UeRDsZq0rfI/AAAAAAAAAog/w49oxU2zH8I/s640/DSC_2631.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
For the backs I used a Denyse Schmidt print from Joanne's and <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/12/installing-zipper-closure-in-pillow.html" target="_blank">Svetlana's tutorial</a> for a hidden zipper closure. This is definitely my favorite method for finishing pillows. I don't like doing it any other way anymore.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3KRqqC9IkjE/UeRDvJzNqiI/AAAAAAAAAoo/7sVIgyBkWUM/s1600/DSC_2634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3KRqqC9IkjE/UeRDvJzNqiI/AAAAAAAAAoo/7sVIgyBkWUM/s640/DSC_2634.JPG" width="572" /></a></div>
As usual, all the good stuff I make is always for other people. I really need to start making some awesome stuff to keep for myself. One day I guess. <br />
I will leave you all with a few shots from the wedding. Seriously, it was the best and most beautifully styled wedding I have ever been to. The theme was vintage everything. It was lots of fun to get to wear an old 50's hairdo (which I did myself).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nnw24wDqd-U/UeRPQ2kkndI/AAAAAAAAAo4/KhEOX5eSGYs/s1600/941756_10151438754410951_495257379_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nnw24wDqd-U/UeRPQ2kkndI/AAAAAAAAAo4/KhEOX5eSGYs/s640/941756_10151438754410951_495257379_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

To start, a baby quilt for my new nephew. I used a few solids from a Bella Solids 'Neutrals' bundle mixed with some high and low volume prints. The pattern is a simple disappearing nine patch. It finished at a nice crib size so it can be used for a toddler.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-El3e2D0Sisw/UckdLj0ny5I/AAAAAAAAAmA/0FSsVp62kHU/s1600/DSC_2505.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-El3e2D0Sisw/UckdLj0ny5I/AAAAAAAAAmA/0FSsVp62kHU/s640/DSC_2505.JPG" width="468" /></a></div>
I used minky for the backing. It was pretty easy to quilt with. Not as difficult as I expected it to be from what I read online. I kept with simple straight line quilting. I don't know if I would try fancy free motion with minky.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7dCIp7mzyls/UckdO_CRztI/AAAAAAAAAmI/F8EemmNif_0/s1600/DSC_2506.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7dCIp7mzyls/UckdO_CRztI/AAAAAAAAAmI/F8EemmNif_0/s640/DSC_2506.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
Next, is another custom maternity gown. I wasn't too sure of the fabric at first, but once the pink bow went on I loved the whole thing. I used Spotted in the Crowd in Grace from Anna Maria Horner's Field Study line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XSqdC5KVp0E/UckdVUfF6pI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/5CPwWLBEJ7w/s1600/DSC_2464.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XSqdC5KVp0E/UckdVUfF6pI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/5CPwWLBEJ7w/s640/DSC_2464.JPG" width="370" /></a></div>
I made this little pillow for my friend's daughter who turned two. It was made from scraps I had left over from making her baby quilt before she was born. I'm told she likes her pillow very much, which makes me smile. I used Elizabeth Hartman's <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2011/10/dogwood-quilting-pattern.html" target="_blank">dogwood quilting tutorial</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lf0IPv8NChI/UckdX3wlk4I/AAAAAAAAAmY/pkRsP7kp7XA/s1600/DSC_2274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="516" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lf0IPv8NChI/UckdX3wlk4I/AAAAAAAAAmY/pkRsP7kp7XA/s640/DSC_2274.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Again I used <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/12/installing-zipper-closure-in-pillow.html" target="_blank">Svetlana's method</a> for the back. Just a few adjustments and I got the face to match up perfectly. I love it! This Tula Pink Parisville print kills me with how gorgeous it is.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t4vxfVnr-Dg/UckddNJHN5I/AAAAAAAAAmg/cYPDKTADnC0/s1600/DSC_2271.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="466" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t4vxfVnr-Dg/UckddNJHN5I/AAAAAAAAAmg/cYPDKTADnC0/s640/DSC_2271.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
And that's about it for now. It's been nice to have time behind the machine even though it means staying up until 2 sometimes 3 in the a.m. I love the quiet time of the night. Its great to relax even if I do pay for it in the morning. Anyone else a night owl sewer? <br />
I leave you with a sneak peek of what I'm working on now. It's so sweet and dreamy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4vtX5rOxfUQ/UckdkIl_ATI/AAAAAAAAAmo/Spew5jUnyOw/s1600/DSC_2511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4vtX5rOxfUQ/UckdkIl_ATI/AAAAAAAAAmo/Spew5jUnyOw/s640/DSC_2511.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

Today is the day to link up and submit only one entry. In the past 6 months I've made nothing but minis and I love all of them. It was so hard to decide which one to submit (like choosing a favorite child). After a little help from my Instagram friends I've decided to go with the Circle Celebration pillow I made for the X-Factor Pillow swap. This little pillow had a rough start (you can <a href="http://cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2013/04/circle-celebration-pillow.html" target="_blank">read about the process here</a>) but in the end I'm pleased with the result. Its funny that every single one of my favorite works live somewhere else now. All of them were made for swaps. This one traveled across the ocean and now lives with <a href="http://cottilello.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Tiina</a> in the U.K. <br />
<br />
This foundation pieced pillow finishes at 15 inches square and is straight line quilted. The free block pattern can be found at <a href="http://www.quiltingonthesquare.com/compass-collection.aspx" target="_blank"><span style="color: #2eb9ff;">Quilting On the Square</span></a> along with lots more blocks. There are already lots of gorgeous minis linked up at <a href="http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com/2013/06/link-up-your-modern-mini-challenge-entry.html" target="_blank">Ellison Lane</a>. I highly recommend visiting and checking out all the lovely eye candy.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been wanting to participate in the Pillow Talk Swap on Flickr for a while now. I've seen so many beautiful pillows made for each round, I had to get in on the action. My chance finally arrived when I saw that sign ups were open for round 10. Imagine my excitement when I saw that my partner was one of my favorite bloggers. I already knew that she was a huge Anna Maria Horner fan, and in her mosaic I saw triangles, so that's the direction I decided to go in. There is something about sewing triangles that I just love. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I only had a few AMH prints in my stash so I ordered a charm pack of Field Study and Lou Lou Thi to work with. I love the fact that AMH's charms are 6 inches instead of the usual 5. I cut 60 triangles but ended up using only 25 of them. Then I began playing with the layout.</div>

This was ok, but ok wasn't gonna cut it. It needed something more.</div>

Enter some texty lovliness. It was so fun showing teasers to the group throughout the process and getting such positive feedback.</div>

<div align="center">
Once the piecing was done I had to figure out how to quilt it. I love free motion quilting but I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone so I decided I would attempt hand quilting for the first time. I used six different colors of Perle cotton 8wt. I also did not use any kind of quilting hoop or frame.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DqiMxXa-ROs/UaZyJVfg9aI/AAAAAAAAAkc/8K3wqIpjiBA/s1600/DSC_2350.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DqiMxXa-ROs/UaZyJVfg9aI/AAAAAAAAAkc/8K3wqIpjiBA/s640/DSC_2350.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I must admit, I did pick out my stitches more than once due to uneven stitches. Once I got in the groove though it went nice and smooth. I did a simple petal motif in the center.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e70tV68U1OI/UaZyQJse9hI/AAAAAAAAAkw/gWWAGVqjIqI/s1600/DSC_2380.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e70tV68U1OI/UaZyQJse9hI/AAAAAAAAAkw/gWWAGVqjIqI/s640/DSC_2380.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
For the low volume background it took me forever to decide what to do with that area. Finally I settled on simple straight line quilting that echoed the hexagon. I did the colors by hand and then machine stitched the white with the perle thread. I never knew you could do that but thanks to <a href="http://www.littlemissshabby.com/2012/08/quilting-with-perle-cotton/" target="_blank">Little Miss Shabby</a>, I discovered a new technique I will definitely be using again.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really enjoyed making this pillow especially knowing who I was making it for. I think it was pretty obvious that it was for her. I wanted it to be special and I hope I achieved that. Judging from her comments on Flickr I think she's going to be a happy lady. I also made her a linen feather pouch and a wall hoop pocket but I forgot to take a pic of the hoop. :(</div>

My partner said she liked bright colors, especially red and turquoise together. This design was totally inspired by The Elven Garden's <a href="http://theelvengarden.blogspot.com/2013/02/tesseract-emerald-quilt-challenge-finish.html" target="_blank">Tesseract Mini</a>. It was so lovely I had to try the design for myself. I referenced <a href="http://www.dontcallmebetsy.com/2011/06/kaleidoscope-qal-start-your-rotary.html" target="_blank">Don't Call Me Betsy's Kaleidoscope Quilt along</a> for cutting and piecing directions. The triangles I used were smaller than her templates so I ended buying a kaleidoscope ruler from my LQS to help with precise cutting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oCkarfPjMh0/UXm032nBylI/AAAAAAAAAig/Sx10k5m_Kvo/s1600/DSC_2234.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oCkarfPjMh0/UXm032nBylI/AAAAAAAAAig/Sx10k5m_Kvo/s640/DSC_2234.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I FMQ'd the background areas and then used a template to trace the curves in the colored parts. I quilted those areas with my regular sewing foot.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qRLzh7b_2NU/UXnvUThDiXI/AAAAAAAAAiw/GI_cDw6-bVk/s1600/DSC_2235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qRLzh7b_2NU/UXnvUThDiXI/AAAAAAAAAiw/GI_cDw6-bVk/s640/DSC_2235.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like the flower shape in the middle and the corners.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DkK35JgGdHQ/UXnvwmC5l7I/AAAAAAAAAi4/5VVE72iHsAY/s1600/DSC_2236.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DkK35JgGdHQ/UXnvwmC5l7I/AAAAAAAAAi4/5VVE72iHsAY/s640/DSC_2236.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I worry it may be a little too bold because my partner kinda went silent on me. Maybe she didn't like the direction I went, not her style? I enjoyed making it. It's a really fun block to put together. I enjoy working with triangles. That Architextures print makes for such a great background too. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This mini finishes at 24" square. I bound it in a some shade of Kona red. I hope it makes her happy. On to the next project :)</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gS6y7Gj-Bm4/UXa0tEfhqZI/AAAAAAAAAgs/_IYvEwOwC04/s1600/DSC_1780+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="609" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gS6y7Gj-Bm4/UXa0tEfhqZI/AAAAAAAAAgs/_IYvEwOwC04/s640/DSC_1780+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
This little pillow was made for my second time participating in the X-Factor Pillow swap. The theme was circles. I wanted to do something different but wasn't sure in what direction I wanted to go until I saw <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/wombatquilts/8490121432/" target="_blank">this photo </a>full of amazing paper pieced blocks made by <a href="http://wombatquilts.com/" target="_blank">Wombat Quilts</a>. Those blocks are seriously stunning! Something about the Celebration block stood out to me and so I decided to go with that one. I've foundation pieced before and I enjoy the process but man oh man did this block kick my butt! I screwed it up so many times. This was almost the pillow that didn't happen.<br />
Here is the 1st block I made.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nh4XJfSlCUc/UXa4Y8-oygI/AAAAAAAAAg8/7Haf5z2q-Ww/s1600/2013-03-07+11.59.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="628" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Nh4XJfSlCUc/UXa4Y8-oygI/AAAAAAAAAg8/7Haf5z2q-Ww/s640/2013-03-07+11.59.52.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I was so excited because I used a color wheel to choose my colors. I wanted to get away from my rainbow comfort zone. When I was done I just didn't love it so I decided to go back to a rainbow design. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w80tNfFYyCc/UXa8eg-3x7I/AAAAAAAAAhc/8_9pWJS_tvE/s1600/DSC_1640.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w80tNfFYyCc/UXa8eg-3x7I/AAAAAAAAAhc/8_9pWJS_tvE/s640/DSC_1640.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A word of advice, although it may be relaxing, don't drink and paper piece. I had to unpick seams more than a few times. Even when I hadn't been drinking I still messed up despite being super careful. Can you spot the mistake?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fOHID-upv1g/UXa9aazfz5I/AAAAAAAAAiE/bm3FNIwMWSs/s1600/IMG_20130314_203859.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fOHID-upv1g/UXa9aazfz5I/AAAAAAAAAiE/bm3FNIwMWSs/s640/IMG_20130314_203859.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
Frustrating for sure. I almost gave up at the thought of having to cut more fabric to redo the segments, and although my instagram friends said it wasn't that noticeable I couldn't send it out in the world knowing it was off. So I cut the pieces again. For the quilting I decided to go with straight lines to highlight the design of the block.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pv1sDyUiPAI/UXa8lcqG9EI/AAAAAAAAAho/AuoSUjZe8yo/s1600/DSC_1750.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pv1sDyUiPAI/UXa8lcqG9EI/AAAAAAAAAho/AuoSUjZe8yo/s640/DSC_1750.JPG" width="442" /></a></div>
And then came the binding issue. I love piping on a pillow and so I tried it on this one, with this result.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1OPgzf2gePk/UXa8pgaUpuI/AAAAAAAAAhw/HYjBwkhXy-k/s1600/DSC_1767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="624" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1OPgzf2gePk/UXa8pgaUpuI/AAAAAAAAAhw/HYjBwkhXy-k/s640/DSC_1767.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Terrible, hated it, bring on the seam ripper once again! In the end it was better without anything.<br />
<br />
For the back I used Roses in Celebration from the Valentina collection. I also used Svetlana's awesome <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/12/installing-zipper-closure-in-pillow.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> for a hidden zipper closure.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ahElPGh_Go/UXa9Y3unmdI/AAAAAAAAAh8/nI-WnsKhXWc/s1600/DSC_1779.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="578" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6ahElPGh_Go/UXa9Y3unmdI/AAAAAAAAAh8/nI-WnsKhXWc/s640/DSC_1779.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
For all it's trouble, in the end I'm glad I stuck it out and finished this little pillow. <br />
It finishes at 15 inches square. I used Kona Ash for the background. The free block pattern can be found at <a href="http://www.quiltingonthesquare.com/compass-collection.aspx" target="_blank">Quilting On the Square</a> along with lots more blocks.<br />

An apron for my mom for her birthday. I used this great <a href="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/kristen/flirty-apron-tutorial/" target="_blank">tutorial</a> from the <a href="http://www.thedatingdivas.com/" target="_blank">Dating Divas</a>. I really need to make one for myself.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jt2sHgHt-aA/UV0IPfN-EhI/AAAAAAAAAfg/r6xupNP1zLc/s1600/DSC_1597.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jt2sHgHt-aA/UV0IPfN-EhI/AAAAAAAAAfg/r6xupNP1zLc/s640/DSC_1597.JPG" width="334" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This little pillow was made to match the Pezzy baby quilt I made <a href="http://www.cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2013/01/hospital-maternity-gown-and-pezzy-baby.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYjqc6mpQXw/UV0I6VmLtzI/AAAAAAAAAfo/1IoBG1UXV2A/s1600/DSC_1604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="460" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYjqc6mpQXw/UV0I6VmLtzI/AAAAAAAAAfo/1IoBG1UXV2A/s640/DSC_1604.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the back I used a zipper closure but its hidden by a flap. I used this <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/2012/12/installing-zipper-closure-in-pillow.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> by Svetlana of <a href="http://sotakhandmade.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">s.o.t.a.k handmade</a>. This tutorial is seriously life changing! Never again will I do a lazy envelope back closure. I love having such a clean finish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8Nm5rkNvAA/UV0LDfgFmHI/AAAAAAAAAgU/gKHcRYG3GGU/s1600/DSC_1605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="454" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-H8Nm5rkNvAA/UV0LDfgFmHI/AAAAAAAAAgU/gKHcRYG3GGU/s640/DSC_1605.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And lastly, a few pouches for my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/CutSewPressLove" target="_blank">etsy shop</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2UMM5r0VhOM/UV0Jal25gGI/AAAAAAAAAf4/sZb8J1Gls6c/s1600/DSC_1690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="592" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2UMM5r0VhOM/UV0Jal25gGI/AAAAAAAAAf4/sZb8J1Gls6c/s640/DSC_1690.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The prints are Vivie Sprinkle in Aqua, Vivie Bloom in Citrus and Vivie Bloom in Blush, from the Larkspur Collection by Alexander Henry Fabrics purchased from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/FreshModernFabric" target="_blank">Fresh Modern Fabric</a>. The bottom fabric is Essex Yarn Dyed in Flax from Robert Kaufman purchased from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/StashModernFabric" target="_blank">Stash Modern Fabric</a>. I love using that linen blend. Thank you for stopping by!<br />
<br />
Happy sewing,<br />

First off, thanks to those of you who followed me over on Bloglovin', and welcome to my new readers. I have been busy sewing, hence the lack of blogging. I will try to aim for at least one post a month.<br />
<br />
I want to share with you the awesome stuff I've received from my recent swaps. My first ever swap was with Jessie of <a href="http://insidethepaperbox.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Inside The Paper Box</a>. There is so much I love about this mini, the tiny little squares, the different shades of color and how they flow into each other, but most of all the quilting. My picture doesn't do it justice. Over to the right hand side are the loveliest flowers. It's so perfect and I'm honored to have it hanging in my sewing room. Thanks again Jessie for being such a great swap buddy! You can see what I made for her <a href="http://www.cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2013/01/pickledish-mini.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />

After getting my feet wet with the private swap, I was lucky enough to join the X-Factor Pillow swap on Flickr. This beauty was voted number one and I got it! There are no words to express how happy I was to get this one. It came all the way from Germany and was made by <a href="http://jonaetlili.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Johanna</a>. Her work on flickr is amazing! Even though its a pillow, I have it hanging in my sewing room so my 2 boys can't destroy it. This one truly brings me joy every time I see it.<br />

The back is pretty too!

<br />
I'm in 2 more swaps going on right now and then I think I will take a break for a bit. I'm participating in round 5 of the X Factor swap and also the Fab Little Quilt Swap on Flickr. I can't reveal the pillow I made for XFactor yet but here is a mockup of my plan for the FliQS.<br />

I need to get cutting for this one. I think it's gonna be pretty cool. Thank you for reading!<br />

Today I wanted to share with you the pillow I made. I named it Simply Modern and Pezzy because of the 3 fabric lines I used to make it. The only guideline was squares. I used a mini charm pack of Simply Color, and then cuts from a Pezzy and Half Moon Modern charm pack. All three lines work so beautifully together. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8490201640/" title="Simply Modern and Pezzy by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Simply Modern and Pezzy" height="614" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8514/8490201640_3c723e548b_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
For the quilting I used <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLanOuq4yKs">Kelly's video</a> tutorial on Cathedral quilting. The way she does it makes it really easy to get a somewhat complicated look. This method is perfect for 2" squares. I used gray thread for a little contrast.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8490201872/" title="Simply Modern and Pezzy quilting by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Simply Modern and Pezzy quilting" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8108/8490201872_b1e189bec3_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
I love to put piping on a pillow so I did here with Madrona Road text in black.<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wp3w-ZqCK1E/USZrcPbJc1I/AAAAAAAAAew/kThz9yX_XOo/s1600/DSC_1485+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wp3w-ZqCK1E/USZrcPbJc1I/AAAAAAAAAew/kThz9yX_XOo/s640/DSC_1485+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I did not get any pictures of the back :^(<br />
To my surprise, the pillow was voted second out of 18 entries! This means I get one of my top choices and if I get the pillow I think I am, I will die with happiness! I loved participating in this swap. It was so cool and stress free. I enjoyed the mystery of it and then the voting process. There were so many beautiful pillows in the group I'm glad to be getting any one of them. I'm so excited about the next round. Next post I will share what I received from this swap and my swap with Jessie of <a href="http://insidethepaperbox.blogspot.com/">Inside The Paper Box.</a><br />

I am so excited to finally share with you the mini I made for a swap with Jessie of <a href="http://insidethepaperbox.blogspot.com/">Inside The Paper Box</a>. Advance warning: there are A LOT of pics in this post. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I've been wanting to participate in some swaps on Flickr, but they all require prior swap experience and I had none. I posted a message on instagram and Jessie so kindly volunteered to do a private swap with me to help build up my swappy street cred. We posted inspiration collages and went from there. I was so happy to see that one of her picks was <a href="http://comfortstitching.typepad.co.uk/comfortstitching/2010/09/pickledish-quilt-a-long-part-one-cutting-the-templates.html">Aneela's Pickledish block</a>. I've had this block bookmarked for a long time but never a reason or the time to actually make it. And so here was my chance! Jessie's only direction was that she liked scrappy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hH1c88kD9Tk/UQms4IK-orI/AAAAAAAAAd8/9AELYEUiIH8/s1600/DSC_1428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hH1c88kD9Tk/UQms4IK-orI/AAAAAAAAAd8/9AELYEUiIH8/s640/DSC_1428.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have a very modest stash so everything I pulled was a favorite.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
The first few arcs were a bit tricky but then I got the hang of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I included all of my favorite text prints for the cornerstones.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pinning is crucial with these, but sewing the curves was no problem at all. I found it very relaxing.</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Before I started any quilting, I sketched the block out and planned how I wanted each space to look. My quilting was definitely inspired by <a href="http://www.quiltingismytherapy.com/">Angela Walters</a>. I turned to both of her books and her Craftsy class for guidance. I had planned to include swirls and circles in the background, but my skills aren't up to par yet. I kept with the pebbles which was fun and not too difficult for my first time trying them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The only lines I actually marked were for the center quilting.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
At first I was having major tension issues and getting these weird knotty spots on the back. Then I posted a pic on instagram asking for tips. Within minutes I had some great suggestions and after a quick cleaning, needle change, and putting my feed dogs UP, it was smooth sailing! I love instagram!</div>

<br />
Happy New Year everyone! I hope your year has gotten off to a great start. I have been a busy bee lately. Lots of sewing has been done in January. First off, my best friend is expecting a baby boy soon. As requested I made her a hospital gown so she would look fabulous in those first moment photos. I used a free pattern found at Lazy Girl Designs <a href="http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/hospitalgown.php">here</a>. Its a great pattern, very easy to follow, and makes a great gift. Some changes I made were rounding out the neckline and using snaps at the shoulders.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8418289353/" title="applying snaps by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="applying snaps" height="396" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8213/8418289353_5072a400f9.jpg" width="500" /></a>

</div>

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8419340978/" title="happy friend by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="happy friend" height="800" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8331/8419340978_72415e7f26_c.jpg" width="505" /></a>
</div>
<br />
Of course I had to make her a baby quilt. I found this awesome <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/06/easy-pezzy-crib-quilt.html">tutorial</a> at the Moda Bakeshop by Alyssa of <a href="http://www.pileofabric.com/">Pile O' Fabric</a>. I had seen the quilt a while ago and loved it, and so this was the perfect opportunity to make one myself. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8357665345/" title="Appliques ready to be cut out by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Appliques ready to be cut out" height="612" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8220/8357665345_bdd61b2d47_o.jpg" width="612" /></a>
</div>
I usually like to finish a quilt with hand stitched binding but I did not have the time to do it on this one. Kelly's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nSPEbi-diM">video</a> (of <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/">Kelby Sews</a>) on using invisible thread to finish the binding was super helpful. At first I had some issues getting the thread on the bobbin, but after that was done it was smooth sailing. Normally, I don't like the way my machine sewn binding looks, but this technique is one I will use again in the future.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/8419385186/" title="invisible thread binding by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="invisible thread binding" height="600" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8186/8419385186_309a47bc33_c.jpg" width="800" /></a>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The great thing about this quilt is the size, it will definitely be able to be used on a toddler bed instead of just as a baby quilt. I'm so happy she liked my gifts. I really enjoy making handmade gifts instead of just going to a store and buying something off a shelf. She liked the quilt so much she requested a matching pillow which is in the works now. </div>

My very modest stash consists of mostly fat quarters and a few half yard cuts. Peg from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewfreshfabrics">Sew Fresh Fabrics</a> so generously sent me some yardage to make pillowcases for the Newtown survivors. I had some half yards that surprisingly coordinated with what she sent and this is the result. Like she said, it felt good to do something tangible to help.<br />

I think I'm keeping the yellow one for myself :^) I used Noodlehead Anna's <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-diy-tutorial.html">Open Wide Pouch</a> tutorial. It was fun to make these and I hope the recipients liked their gifts.<br />
Next year I will start my handmade Christmas sewing in July. Maybe, just maybe, I will be done in time.<br />

The pillow covers for my mother in law are done! I really love them. My goal was to make them modern but still have a warm homey vibe to them. I found a bunch of inspiration on flickr and went from there.<br />
I pushed my quilting by attempting patterns in the book "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Free-Motion-Quilting-Angela-Walters-Designs/dp/160705535X">Free Motion Quilting with Angela Walters</a>." This book is so beautiful to look at and definitely inspiring. I was really proud of my wood grain quilting. It was fun to try and gave a lovely result. The attempt at concentric circles didn't leave me too happy at first, but after the cases were washed it looks a whole lot better.<br />
Less than half a layer cake was used to make these. I bought it from <a href="http://www.pinkcastlefabrics.com/">Pink Castle Fabrics</a> via an instagram sale. I have enough left to make some more Christmas gifts.<br />

First time trying this wood grain technique. I started with some marking lines to get the hang of it. I also went in an up and down motion instead of side by side. It felt easier to me that way.<br />

A reindeer in the making. (November 2013 Here is an update on how I did it.) <br />
When I made it last year I was looking for the perfect deer head silhouette. <br />

What I did was trace the shape on my computer screen, outlined it in a black sharpie, and then enlarged it by copying and printing it at a larger size. Hope that helps :)<br />

I have been sewing, it just comes down to time in front of my machine or time in front of my computer. I choose the sewing machine every time, I'm sure you understand. So here is a quick rundown of what I've been up to.<br />
<br />
First the silent auction quilt. Well, I decided to be selfish at the last minute and kept the triangle quilt for myself. Instead I pulled out a WIP I had started 2 years before. It was a tumbler quilt kit I had purchased on ebay. I got about half way through and then it sat for a long time. I finished the patchwork, quilted wavy lines throughout, and attached the binding, all in one night. My favorite part of the quilt is my personalized label! Cassie from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/gutenTAGs">GutenTags on etsy</a> was awesome enough to ship a few labels to me super fast even though she was in the middle of unpacking after a move and her shop was closed. I'm so thankful to her. She really is the best and the labels are great!<br />

Next finish was a baby quilt for my best friend. Her baby boy should be arriving any day now. She loves robots so this is what I made for her.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made her this stuffed robot to go along with the theme.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The pattern is from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/94726704/rupert-the-robot-sewing-pattern-pdf">Danger Crafts on etsy</a>. It's not bad if you've made a doll before, but I wouldn't reccommend it for a beginner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What happened to the triangle quilt you ask? The back is pieced and it is basted. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to quilt it. Here is a shot from when I was playing with the layout for the back.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d9iVmwl0QdQ/UIzBPnNNO0I/AAAAAAAAAdQ/yN2Hk-z733Y/s1600/IMG_20120918_144051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-d9iVmwl0QdQ/UIzBPnNNO0I/AAAAAAAAAdQ/yN2Hk-z733Y/s640/IMG_20120918_144051.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

It is not even finished yet but already beats the pants off my <a href="http://cutsewpresslove.blogspot.com/2012/08/swoon-in-peacock-lane.html">Swoon quilt</a> as my new favorite.<br />
Here is the finished quilt top hanging in the sunlight. I love seeing patchwork that way. It's like gorgeous stained glass.<br />

Of course! I think it will be interesting to see what people are willing to bid for my work. Plus, any reason to start a new quilt is a good reason. With all the triangle quilts out in blog land lately I had to get in on the action. Recently, I purchased a copy of "<span id="btAsinTitle"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Free-Motion-Quilting-Angela-Walters-Designs/dp/160705535X">Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters</a>"</span> and I fell in love with the Mod Bars quilt by <a href="http://www.handmadebyalissa.com/">Alissa Haight Carlton</a>. I decided to combine the two. This is what I have come up with so far.<br />
<br />
It started with a bundle from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/FreshModernFabric?ref=pr_shop_more">Fresh Modern Fabric</a> on Etsy. This is the Quiltcon bundle with Pomegranate substituted for medium gray. Awesome shop, excellent customer service and, super fast shipping! I purchased my Tri-Recs Tool from Joanne's with a 40% off coupon, win!<br />

A night of cutting.</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P7I1y2vaTjw/UE4oU_rZW8I/AAAAAAAAAa8/eEh975yfV5I/s1600/DSC_0784.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P7I1y2vaTjw/UE4oU_rZW8I/AAAAAAAAAa8/eEh975yfV5I/s640/DSC_0784.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few nights of designing the layout, and this is what I've come up with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4QVxt4Et0V8/UE4ocbA0rOI/AAAAAAAAAbE/Vwaei5L4Zm0/s1600/DSC_0789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4QVxt4Et0V8/UE4ocbA0rOI/AAAAAAAAAbE/Vwaei5L4Zm0/s640/DSC_0789.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I plan on using medium gray for the background. I'm so excited about this quilt! It is my first time using solids only. I think once it's finished I'm going to have a hard time parting with it. The auction is September 21st so I have to get crackin' on this thing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On another note, yesterday I was able to whip up this easy peasy Moby style sling for 21 bucks! It took all of 15 minutes maybe between serging and french seaming. My lil potato loves it!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Enough typing and more sewing. I am going to attempt to link up to <a href="http://freshlypieced.blogspot.com/p/wip-wednesday.html">WIP Wednesday</a> over at Freshly Pieced. Thanks for visiting!</div>

I was able to make myself a cute pincushion caddy!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/7869648456/" title="Pincushion Caddy by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Pincushion Caddy" height="481" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8300/7869648456_72ba0ca505_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Seams-Me-Reasons-Love-Sewing/dp/0470259264">Anna Maria Horner's book</a>, Seams To Me: 24 New Reasons To Love Sewing. It's one of her older books so I found it pretty cheap on ebay with free shipping. After reading a few reviews on the pattern I was a bit worried about it beeing too complicated. I could not have done it without the help of <a href="http://www.texasfreckles.com/2010/03/pincushion-crazy.html">Melanie's tutorial</a> at Texas Freckles. All of the pictures and instructions were so helpful. The pattern pieces were cut Friday night and by Saturday evening I had myself a caddy.</div>

<br />
I only needed to cut one piece from the pattern. The rest of the way I followed Melanie's instructions to get a custom fit tube and bottom.<br />

<br />
I wish I could see the bottom all of the time. I should have made the inside bottom with this fabric. Oh well, hindsight...<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/7869648074/" title="Pincushion Caddy by cutsewpresslove, on Flickr"><img alt="Pincushion Caddy" height="500" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7252/7869648074_501440996d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
I way overstuffed it and forgot to use something to support the sides during stuffing. I also got some puckers but don't mind too much. Instead of polyfill maybe some rice or plastic beads would be a better filler to give it some weight. Imperfections and all, I love it! The project involved machine and hand sewing but nothing too bad. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon.<br />

<br />
Here is the progress on the robot quilt. I am going to start sewing these together soon.<br />

Thank you for taking the time to update your subscriptions and follow me over here.<br />
<br />
One of my best friends is having a baby boy soon. She really like robots so I bought this fabric for her quilt. A hexagon quilt is on my sewing wish list and this fabric seemed perfect for the job. I made myself a template and began cutting.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/7829274368/" title="fabric for a boy quilt by sewaddictedtoblogs, on Flickr"><img alt="fabric for a boy quilt" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8443/7829274368_64bac6645b_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
I kicked that orange and red stripe out and substituted a yellow polka dot.
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/7829274148/" title="cutting half hexagons by sewaddictedtoblogs, on Flickr"><img alt="cutting half hexagons" height="466" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8308/7829274148_45f9815124_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I also made myself a design wall for about 17 bucks. It's much better than using the floor. here is as far as I've gotten.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/57458036@N02/7829273472/" title="on the design wall by sewaddictedtoblogs, on Flickr"><img alt="on the design wall" height="427" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8423/7829273472_a6a500fdb6_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
<br />
<br />
On trips to the park I have been working on these jewel stars. I really enjoy English paper piecing. It's calming, and not as hard as I thought. Nice busy work for the hands.

<br />
<br />
I've gone from a whipstitch to a ladder stitch. It looks much cleaner.<br />
<br />
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by.Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04637691666242762822noreply@blogger.com1
